
Overview
RMCL supported the development of the “Guideline for Prison Health Interventions in Bangladesh” for the Department of Prisons under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The assignment focused on strengthening prison health systems, improving healthcare service delivery within correctional facilities, and establishing standardized operational guidance for health interventions in prisons across Bangladesh. The initiative addressed the growing need for structured, rights-based, and evidence-informed prison health systems capable of responding to communicable diseases, mental health conditions, substance use disorders, non-communicable diseases, emergency care needs, and the overall health and well-being of incarcerated populations. The guideline aimed to improve coordination between prison administration, healthcare providers, and national health systems while promoting equitable access to healthcare services within correctional settings.
RMCL provided technical leadership and strategic support for the assignment, including:

The assignment integrated public health principles, correctional health standards, and health systems strengthening approaches to support sustainable and coordinated healthcare service delivery within prisons.
